Dropbox is one of the, if not the, best way of sharing files and for storing your files online.

Firstly, its public folder allows you to upload and share files with friends via its public link. And guess what? There is no size limit for each individual file, should it be uploaded via the desktop application (300 MB cap via the web) – up to a maximum of your total storage quota – 2 GB is given free for the basic free account. No need to keep attaching files to your emails any more – it takes too long. Just send your friends the public link via MSn / Email / Facebook / Skype / Twitter!

Secondly, its sharing folders function is indispensable during project work. Isn’t it just annoying to have to keep resending huge Word / Excel / Powerpoint / PDF files back and forth via emails? Just create a folder and share it with your group mates (via invite, of course it requires all to have Dropbox but hey, what better way to share the joy? You get additional 250 MB from referring friends :D ) The best part is, whenever your groupmate updates the file and saves it, the file gets automatically updated on your computer via the desktop application. No more worries about whether you have the latest document or not!

Thirdly, for those of you who resist carrying thumbdrives around (it’s so old school, ain’t it?), this is the easiest way to get your files when you don’t bring your laptop. It backs up your key files so that you can retrieve them on the go. This works on another computer or mobile device – Windows / Mac / Linux / Android / Blackberry / iPhone application! Not only that, this ensures that you have a back-up of your essential files even if your external hard disk back up crashes. Here, you have a back-up of your back-up.

The lowdown:

A free account gives you 2 GB storage space and you can easily get more by inviting more users to join and install the desktop application up to the limit of 8 GB. Paid accounts will provide you with more storage space.
